The Wahconah Park Project

Right Light Productions will be releasing a series of short videos about Wahconah Park—its past, present, and hoped-for future. With the City of Pittsfield needing $8–10 million to kickstart restoration, our hope is that this series helps in some way, or at least captures a bit of the magic that is Wahconah Park.

The Story

As a high school kid in the 90’s, working at Wahconah Park was my first job. I did everything from singing “Take Me Out to the Ballgame” in the press box to working the grill, leading 7th-inning stretches, and cleaning those old massive urinals the next morning. Often, it was just me, the GM, and the field crew prepping the park early for that night’s game, repeating the process daily. It was hard work, but I loved it. I then watched as the city debated moving the park across from Big Y, only for it to remain in place and later earn a spot on the National Register of Historic Places under Mayor Anne Wojtkowski.

In recent years, my wife, two boys and I have rushed to Wahconah Park after our little league games for some baseball and a slice of Americana. Now, with the grandstand condemned and the Pittsfield Suns not playing there, there’s certainly a void there for us, which I can only assume is felt by many others as well.

This sentiment is what prompted me to capture more about the renovation process and the park itself.  Over the coming months, I’ll share short videos—most 90 seconds or less—featuring stories and insights from those connected to Wahconah Park.

I realize there are pro’s and con’s and strong feelings that have a long history and valid points on both sides of the equation. I am not trying to tell the full story of Wahconah Park, nor lead the debate of its restoration.

This video series is a passion project from a life long community member looking to present a bit of a love letter to Wahconah Park, which has provided the backdrop for so many things in Pittsfield since George Burbank first dedicated the land to baseball back in the late 1800’s.

Whether Wahconah Park is rebuilt or disappears into history (I sincerely hope not!), it has had an epic past. I aim to share a few glimpses of those days while inspiring hope for its future. My hope is these videos spark respectful dialogue, rally community and business support, and highlight some of the park’s cultural and economic value.

Ultimately, I want to help accelerate the process of funding and approving a new park so future kids can create lifelong memories whether it’s cleaning (newly renovated) bathrooms at 7 a.m. on Saturday mornings or making the game winning catch on Pittsfield’s historic baseball field.

As Larry Moore, Director of Baseball in the Berkshires, said about our community: “Everybody has a story about Wahconah Park… everybody.” Maybe your story starts here, or maybe your story is steeped in the soil onto that field, in either case, Thank you for being here.

That’s a Wrap – 2022 Recap


Truly an amazing year. While we’re finally out of Covid, we hit the ground running with many clients, old and new. Whether it be strategic business content, events, music videos, documentaries… you name it, we’ve been blessed in getting to work with some of the greatest brands and talent. The video shows a quick glimpse of a few of our projects this past year.

This is Me – One Shot Shoot


This video was shot while walking backwards the entire time…  in ONE camera take, no cuts or edits. I heard this song for the first time 3 days before we went into full production. We had 15 dancers for only one hour on what turned out to be a rainy April morning in Connecticut. It took us three tries and was… So. Much. Fun.

For as long as I can remember I’ve been going to my sister Sheri’s dance recitals and shows, dressing up in my Sunday best and cheering her on with the rest of the family from the audience or, if I was lucky, backstage!!

We’re in our 40’s now, and I’m still going to her shows. She performs with her awesome dance troupe, Stop/Time Dance in central CT. Their sold-out shows at the Playhouse on Park theater run for a couple of weeks every year and are a staple for theater/musical fans in the Hartford area… and beyond!

SIDE NOTE: A few years back I had the amazing luxury of actually BEING in one of the shows (y’all didn’t know I can sing, dance, play music AND be a cinematographer did ya!)  Getting to PERFORM in a show with my sister after so many years of watching her was, I thought, the pinnacle of my career as her longest running fan. However, getting to shoot this video may very well be the best blend of both of our talents and passions.

About a year ago I had pitched the idea for this video to Stop Time’s amazing choreographer, Darlene Zoeller, we chatted a bit in the weeks that followed, and left it in the air as something we’d try to do sometime.

That ’sometime’ came around almost exactly one year later. FIVE DAYS prior to the launch of their upcoming show this year, Darlene reached out asking if I wanted to come down and shoot this video as a promo for their theater. I hadn’t heard the song before, nor did we have time to do any rehearsals, it was a hit the ground running sort of shoot.

I wasn’t worried about the dancers, they are all pros and only needed a little direction. I was worried about having the time to learn and unfamiliar song, getting my cues for the camera work, having time to augment their lighting and not falling down while filming since I have to traverse the entire shoot backwards, without a spotter…. in the rain.

In the time I had before we were scheduled to shoot, I listened to the song as much as I could to get an idea of what we might do, practiced in my sisters yard over and over again the night before, and, the next day, an hour or so before their performance, the dancers and singer came early and we were able to make this video happen on our third and final attempt… all in under an hour.

It came out as close to the original vision as I could have hoped.

The song, as you may know, is from The Greatest Showman, and the singer in the video (and the actual recording on this video!), is Amanda Forker.

I love doing these one-take videos, they are often a lot of work, pre-production, and planning… yet with pro’s like the crew at Stop Time, we crushed all that work into a matter of hours and ended up with something that was sincerely so much fun, and really captures the spirit of Stop Time and the Playhouse on Park theater.

I’ll admit, I strongly thought about NOT doing this shoot since we had VERY little time to prepare.

I was attached to what I wanted it to be, how it would come out, and mapping out all the technicalities.  But… sometimes, you need to make the jump, take the chance, and just do the damn thing.  It doesn’t always work out the way you would’ve planned, but sometimes it works out even better.

If you’re wondering who my sister is, she’s the beautiful one whose smile lights up the world… and who is wearing purple).  🙂

Andromeda


Among many of the gorgeous nooks that make up Stockbridge, MA is the summer home of the guy who sculpted the Lincoln Memorial Statue down in DC.  His name was Daniel Chester French (‘Dan’ henceforth, respectfully) and to this day you can visit that summer home, aptly named Chesterwood, and see some of his early models for that enormous monolith of a statue that’s become so famous.

But that’s not what will catch your eye as you enter his studio, the beautiful naked woman, chained, and draped over a rock will most certainly be where your gaze falls.

Her name is Andromeda, and she’s the last piece of sculpted artwork that Dan was working on before he died.   Though inspired by the Greek Mythology, I heard that there was an actual supermodel (who frequented the Berkshires back in the day) who was the stand-in (draped in?) model… I couldn’t find any online corroboration for that, but it does add some fun to the story as if it needs it.

But even all that isn’t as cool as the fact that…

Dan had the entire studio built on top of train tracks that would allow him to remove part of the wall and floor, and wheel out this statue of Andromeda, into the sun, so he and future gawkers, can witness her full sunlit glory.

It’s truly something to behold.

They asked me to do a quick time-lapse video to show the process of the wall and floor being removed, and Andromeda being wheeled into the light.  While the video is fun, you have to see her in person. The entire manor is beautiful, and the grounds, where they show a lot of other artists work as well as his own, are certainly worth the trip during your next visit to the Berks.  Hey, you may even bump into a supermodel… but don’t like, bump into Andromeda, she’s pretty priceless… like literally priceless.
